數學本是歐洲主導的學科，但美國數學家於二十世紀開始急起直追，哈佛大學數學系更是這股力量的核心。
沃爾夫數學獎及菲爾茲獎得獎人丘教授，將會介紹當年推動發展美式數學的先驅者，由他們開創的數學概念，以及傳承這些斐然成就的學者們。
In the twentieth century, American mathematicians began to make critical advances in a field previously dominated by Europeans. Harvard University’s Mathematics Department was at the centre of these developments.
Professor Yau, the Wolf Prize and Fields Medal Laureate, will give a lively and accessible account of the pioneers who trail-blazed a distinctly American tradition of mathematics, the heady mathematical concepts that emerged, and the men and women who shaped them.
